A question ?

HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO MAKE A FULL BODYPAINTING?

It takes usually between 4 and 8 hours for a full bodypainting, depending on the complexity of the work, the hairstyle & props, if prosthetics are needed, etc. This time can be reduced for a partial bodypainting and/or if I work with an assistant.

Before that, there is of course some preparation ork: prosthetics, props, sketches, organization, etc.
For my studio works, there is also time spent on selecting, processing, editing and publishing the images.

WHAT ARE YOUR TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS?

It all depends on the project. I always check all parameters accordingly with my commissioner, regarding light, space, power supply, facilities for the models, etc. so that we have no surprise on the D-day.

WHERE DID YOU LEARN YOUR ART?

My friend Olivier Zegers got me a foot in the door in the late 1990s. Then I learned mostly by myself, with occasional training sessions in specific techniques.

IS THERE A BODYPAINTING SCHOOL?

Not as far as I know. There are makeup schools with a one-year programme, with bodypainting courses among others. Sometimes it is possible to register only for some courses such as this. Aside from that, workshops and training courses are often organized during bodypainting festivals or before bodypainting contests, but it requires travelling sometimes far away from home.

DO YOU LOOK FOR MODELS FOR COLLABORATIONS?

For my personal bodypainting projects, which require a lot of time and energy for preparation, realization and post-production, I give priority to models I already know, as I want to avoid any surprise. I get many applications, but for a first time with a model, I propose only some tests (i.e. when preparing a contest), and there is no photoshoot at stake.
Don’t hesitate to message me if you’re interested in being a model, even although I cannot respond positively to most people.

DO YOU PAINT MEN?

Of course, if it is a commission. But for my personal projects, I prefer women. It is an aesthetical preference rather than an ethical one.

WHAT ARE YOU RATES?

Rates vary according to several factors: context, preparation, material, date, and of course nature of the job. Please fill the form with all the details of your request, and we’ll be happy to give you a personalized quote.

DO YOU DO COLLABORATIONS WITH PHOTOGRAPHERS?

I rarely do collaborations with photographers, as I generally take pictures of my personal creations myself. I might consider collaborations with experienced photographers according to their project (visibility, style, innovation), but usually photographers just hire me.

DO YOU SELL PRINTS?

Yes I do! I do sell fine art prints on Chromalux® in limited edition (10 prints), format 60 cm x 40 cm + black American Box frame. Other formats and supports upon request. Please fill the form with all the details of your request, and we’ll be happy to give you a personalized quote.

DO YOU SELL BODYPAINT?

No, except when I organize group orders for the participants of my workshops. I just sell props & prosthetics on the “Murex Booth”.

WHAT FACE AND BODY PAINT BRANDS DO YOU RECOMMEND?

I’m not under contract with a particular brand and I pick material from different suppliers according to my specific needs. All brands have their pros and cons. Choose according to your budget, your technique and your color tastes. If possible, test the products before ordering. All brands can be purchased online, but consider checking first at your local costume/hobby supplier what they have.

WHAT PRODUCTS DO YOU USE?

I only use hypoallergenic products from reliable professional makeup manufacturers. (Allergies are very rare but not impossible.)
